Cricketers at a Watford club are now making use of enhanced facilities to improve their skills after new practice nets were opened.
Mayor Peter Taylor officially opened the nets at Watford Town CC’s Woodside ground after the new facility was made possible by a neighbourhood grant from Watford Council, adding to the club’s own investment.
The mayor was joined by several councillors at the event and told guests and players: “I’m really grateful to everyone at the club for all they do and it was great to see how popular their training is with the community.”
The new nets are fully enclosed, making them safe to use when matches are taking place on the adjacent pitch. The surface is the latest design, providing ideal batting conditions.
The club plans to enhance the practice facility still further, later this year, with the addition of a power supply for a bowling machine.
This will also make lighting a possibility, to extend the hours of use for the many youngsters and adults who want to enhance their game.
