After the game with Huddersfield on Saturday, head coach Valerien Ismael answered a lot of key questions during his press conference.

We are reporting what was asked and said verbatim, and breaking it into smaller stories.

This is the fourth and final part of the Watford boss’ answers.

At this club, they often change manager. Do you have any concerns? Has anything been fed back to you? Or do you feel comfortable?

VI: “I am still comfortable where I am. I enjoy my work every day with the staff and I think the most important thing is that we make sure we give everything.

“This is what I do, from early in the morning until early in the evening.

“We know what we are able to do and the performance was not right today, so we accept all the criticism.

“But we are all on the same page. This is the rules in football: at some point you have to win games and we want to win games. I do the job to win games. You are a football player to win games.

“You cannot be happy if you are not winning games.”

We’ve seen what this team can do. Do you know what you need to do to turn things around?

VI: “The good thing is we have a difficult away game next week at Millwall, so we know exactly what it will be like there.

“So throughout the week it is all about picking up the players with the right mentality, the right desire and to make sure we raise the level of the performance.

“It will be a different game, that is clear, but we have to be ready to fight.

“Maybe it could be better for us to prepare this game rather than another home game, when you know you will have a lot of possession.”

Did you understand the fans’ reaction today?

VI: “Yes, yes I did.

“I would have been frustrated myself as a fan if I had been in the stands today.

“It is not acceptable. To be a football player is a privilege and the privilege is to give something to your fans, to give something to your club. You get paid by the club.

“And especially to give something from yourself. You play for yourself first.

“When you give a performance like that our fans got the feeling. If maybe you lose today but with a good performance our fans will say ‘look guys, you played well, unlucky, we go again’.

“But that performance? I understand completely the fans’ big frustration.”
