Although he’s been on the bench for the last three league and cup games, Ryan Andrews has not been injured.
Valerien Ismael confirmed that earlier today as he discussed the players available to him ahead of the game at Rotherham tomorrow.
“He was not injured,” said the head coach.
“We assess after extra game the numbers of every player, and the data for our full-backs is especially important.
“We saw with Ryan that with every game the data was going down, down, down. He wasn’t able to push anymore.
“That’s a sign of fatigue, and it meant we needed to manage him.
“It’s his first full season, and my job is to manage the workload for him and all my players. That is the reason.”
One player definitely ruled out tomorrow is striker Vakoun Bayo, although his return from the hamstring problem he picked up against Leicester is not far away.
“Bayo will be out for two weeks, hopefully if everything goes as we expect then he will be back for the game against Millwall,” said Ismael.
“Ryan Porteous is obviously suspended tomorrow after his booking on Tuesday.
“The good news is that Jeremy Ngakia will play in a friendly for the Under-21s tomorrow, his first game since injury.
“Otherwise, all the players including Dennis and Kayembe are available for the game.”
Both Dennis and Kayembe were among the subs who came on at Norwich, and after the game Ismael suggested he was disappointed with what he saw from those who stepped off the bench.
Did that indicate a widespread problem with attitude, a change in the dressing room or was it something more isolated?
“No - we spoke about one specific case at that game, and I think the team also spoke about the situation,” said the Watford boss.
“I think it was just a reminder that we need everyone to be 100%.”
The defeat at Norwich ended an unbeaten run on the road for Watford in Championship games, and means they haven’t actually won on their travels since the game at QPR more than a month ago.
“Sometimes the Championship is relentless: you are unbeaten in January with a good feeling and close to the play-offs, then three weeks later you struggle to win a game,” said Ismael.
“Our focus is now to make sure we have the right mindset for tomorrow.
“We have to get the basics right to give us a chance to compete and to stay in the game.
“The story at the minute is that I think we can see and feel the potential, and when we do the right things we look really good.
“But the consistency of performance over 90 minutes is missing. What we are fighting for is to get that consistency.
“Norwich was a perfect example, we came back into the game at 2-2 but then we dropped again because we lack consistency.”
