Matt Kitching was the comfortable winner of the Watford Half Marathon as hundreds of runners again took part in the popular annual race yesterday.
The Queens Park Harriers athlete finished the 13-mile route that started and finished in Cassiobury Park in a net time of 1 hour 12 mins 28 secs, 13 seconds ahead of runner-up Ruari MacNeil.
Sarah Jane Swinhoe won the women’s race in a time of 1:24.39 to finish 60th overall, crossing the finishing line ahead of London Heathside clubmate Chloe Wilkinson, who came home in 64th place in 1:24.58.
Dacorum Athletics Club’s Phillip Oddy (1:15.13) and Adam Edgeworth (1:17.08) finished third and fourth respectively, while the first competitor to cross the line from a Watford club was Mark Ames (1:18.07), the Watford Joggers member coming sixth overall to win the age 40 to 49 category.
More than 1,300 competitors finished the race, which is organised by Active Training World, while a fun run was also staged.
The respective age group winners were: Female: Under-10, Ellora Soomal, 9.40; Under-11, Hrida Singh, 8.37; Under-13, Sara Bouchair, 10.40; Ages 20-34, Arpita Visen, 9.45; Ages 35-44, Shiana Souza Monteiro, 12.03; Ages 45-54, Marie Stokes, 10.42; Unknown, Esmu Clifford, 16.59.
Male: Under-10, Ollie Johnson, 8.55; Under-11, Javier Bustamante, 7.24; Under-13, Hayat Ahmad, 7.54; Ages 20-39, Phil Bazin, 10.13; Ages 40-49, Gareth Moss, 8.46; Ages 50-59, Martin Masiar, 15.19; Unknown, Edward Clarke-Taylor, 18.47.
