Watford Sunday League: WD Bushey close gap on North Watford at top

WD went ahead mid-way through the first half when a low cross from Ryan Fisken was met by Massimo Sinisi, but just before half-time Forza equalised thanks to a goal from Giuseppe Delgaudio.

The game turned on a sending off early in the second half for Forza when they had a defender dismissed for a second yellow card offence, and WD took full advantage of the extra man, retaking the lead when Gianluca Demare smashed home.

The extended their advantage after another cross into the box was volleyed in by Joshua Keane.

Forza pulled a goal back immediately from restart with Delgaudio netting his second of the game, but any chance of a comeback was quickly ended after WD were awarded a penalty that was won and converted by Stevie Ward.

Division One

The top two both won, with leaders Chalfont Saints beating Langleybury 5-1 and second-placed Watford Sports overcoming The Cross 4-2.

Saints bounced back from falling behind early on when Max Ellerington netted for Langleybury, but that was a good as it got for the home side, and soon after Andre Ford netted an equaliser before Josh Harnett put them 2-1 ahead before the break.

In the second half, Saints’ extra quality showed as they scored three more times through Sean Haugh, Sam Hills and Jake Rodger.

Watford Sports remain two points behind Chalfont in the table after they beat The Cross whose title challenge is in danger of going off the rails as they suffered a second straight defeat.

Sports had an excellent first half as they scored three times, first with Joe Blagden latching on to a loose ball to fire home before they added two more goals before the break through Luke Carey and Taylor Kemp.

The Cross brought themselves back into the game early in the second half when Luke Henry struck with a long-range effort.

That was soon followed by a second goal for the home side, this time scored by Stribey Wiltshire who brought the ball down and converted despite the attentions of several Sports defenders.

Despite heavy pressure from the home side, they couldn’t force an equaliser and were caught on the counter attack late on as Kemp netted his second of the game.

Chess United bounced back from a 6-1 defeat the previous week with a big win of their own, overcoming CF Watford Continentals 5-1 to secure their third league success of the campaign.

Chess went ahead after a James Richmond cross flew into the goal at the back post.

The lead was doubled soon when a strike from Dylan Ward was deflected into the net.

James Todd headed home at the near post to make it 3-0 before Richmond scored his second goal of the game with a mirror image of his first when another cross went into the net.

Continentals pulled one back after the break with a rebound goal scored by Joe Belloni, but the points were sealed when George Adams fired into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

In the game between two sides in mid-table, Watford United and Old Fullerians, it was United who ran out 2-1 winners after coming back from a goal behind.

Fullerians went ahead in the first half when a ball down the line found Jake Entwistle and his cross was headed home by Joe Rylett.

In the second half the home side, spurred on by some tactical changes at the break, levelled when Vethurshan Sellathurai's precise delivery found Ebrahim Raja who made no mistake.

The winning goal came when Aneurin Newcombe’s through ball found Mayvin Vigneswaran, who finished with precision.

Both ties that were played bizarrely ended in 7-2 home wins.

Third Division AFC Watford caused an upset by knocking out Second Division Inter.

Evan Quinn netted a hat-trick supported by a brace from Tommy Edwards with David Ageni and Paddy Moran also on target. Chris Stead and Gabriel Casagrande replied for inter.

Everett Rovers overcame fellow Second Division side Frances George, Jordan Standley and Lucas Roberts both netting doubles, with David Spencer, Emmanuel Ojeah and Charlie McNally also getting in on the goalscoring act. Tom Minton got both of the George goals.

Division Two

Hertfordshire Athletic beat Dome Bar 3-1 thanks to goals from Evan King, Henry Gibbor and James Hicks, with Ben Kelly netting the Dome consolation.

Bottom-placed Abbots Wanderers took a third point of the season as they drew 3-3 with West Herts.

Johnny Vassey scored twice for Abbots with Mathew Zandes also on target, while the Stags replied thanks to a double of their own from Dylan Catn, with Roscoe Tebbs also finding the net.

Division Three

Woodside Reserves took a massive step towards the title by thrashing second-placed FC Railway 6-1 to open up an 11-point lead at the top of the table.

Joe McCarthy and Joe Fox both struck twice, with Tom Garratt and Jamie Dunlop also scoring. Domenic Leacock netted the Railway goal.

Bricket Wood Acorns moved up three places in the table from second bottom to seventh after a 5-1 away win over bottom-placed PTH United.

Jack Micklewright and Conrad Holland were both on target twice for Acorns with Alex Michael also scoring.

Paul Cook netted the PTH goal, which was just their tenth of the season so far in 13 games played in which they have yet to pick up a single point.
