A referee is set to take charge of a game involving Watford for the first time in three years tomorrow when the Hornets make the short trip to Stevenage in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
Charles Breakspear has been named as the official for the tie at the Lamex Stadium where Valerien Ismael’s side will be aiming to start the season with back-to-back victories following their superb 4-0 win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The official, who was in the middle for Exeter City’s 3-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers in League One on Saturday, last refereed a Hornets fixture in September 2020 when he sent off Stipe Perica in the closing stages of a 3-1 defeat at Newport County in the third round of the League Cup.
Daniel Boneywell and Adrian Tranter have been named as the assistant referees for the tie, with Daniel Cook on fourth official duties.
This is the first time Watford have been involved in the first round of the competition since the 2014/15 season when they beat tomorrow night’s opponents 1-0 thanks to a Lloyd Dyer goal.
Steve Evans’ side also made a winning start to their season on Saturday with a 1-0 victory at Northampton Town in League One.
