Midfielder Dan Gosling is seeking a new club after Watford confirmed his departure after the end of his contract.
The 33-year-old has completed his rehabilitation after suffering a serious Achilles injury at Bristol City in November, and the Watford Observer reported earlier this month that discussions were continuing about him joining Valerien Ismael’s squad to try and prove his value to the head coach.
However, we understand the Hornets boss did not view Gosling as part of his plans after the signing of Jake Livermore ticked the experienced central midfielder box.
The former Bournemouth player is fully fit though, and ready to continue his career with a new club.
Gosling joined the Hornets in January 2021 and scored three goals in 37 appearances, including a crucial winner at Norwich City that helped secure Watford’s promotion back to the Premier League.
After making four appearances in the top flight, Gosling was a key part of the side until his injury and particularly impressed when he was utilised as a makeshift right-back.
It was reported some months ago that Watford had cancelled Gosling’s contract in mutual agreement with the player as he continued his rehabilitation at London Colney, but that was never confirmed or announced by the club.
The Hornets have thanked Gosling for his contribution while at Vicarage Road and wished him well for the future.
