The Pond has been at the heart of the celebrations of some of Watford’s biggest triumphs over the years - and it has also witnessed some fun-filled scenes of a different kind involving the Hornets.

Graham Taylor’s side had completed back-to-back promotions and were getting used to life in Division Two when they headed to the Parade to take part in celebrations for Watford Week at the end of August 1979.

A Watford Observer photographer was among the crowds at the Town Hall end of the town centre as the Hornets players showed off their dribbling skills and treated some young fans to a piggy back race.

The pictures show there was plenty of opportunities for supporters to interact with players during an event that was typical of the club's involvement in the community pioneered by the club's greatest ever manager.
