Forward Adrian Blake has signed a four-year deal with FC Utrecht, the Dutch side have announced this morning.

The 17-year-old told Watford some time ago that he would not accept their enhanced terms for a professional contract, and has now committed his immediate future to the club that finished seventh in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

Blake made three appearances for the Hornets last season, starting the FA Cup tie at Reading in January, and coming off the bench against MK Dons in the Carabao Cup and then on the final day of the season in the Championship game with Stoke.

He has been a regular in the Under-21 side, impressing often with his ability to run at players and take defenders on.

The forward was also a key part of Watford’s run in the FA Youth Cup.

Utrecht have announced that Blake’s four-year contract will commence when he turns 18 on July 15.

Blake told Utrecht's official website: "I just spent 10 years at Watford. I decided for a new chapter in my career and I can't wait to get started.

"Watford was a beautiful adventure. I've been there since I was eight years old, went up through the ranks, made my debut, and I can't thank them enough.

"But it's a time in my life where it's a good change.

"Everyone knows the Dutch are very good at developing players and taking them to the next level. I can't wait to be here and be part of this project."

FC Utrecht Technical Director Jordy Zuidam said: “We are impressed with Adrian's talent and potential. He plays with flair and is a football player who can grow into the type of player that fans come to Galgenwaard Stadium for.

“We have to realise that Adrian is still young and give him the time and space to develop in the A-selection. It has been a long and intensive process to attract Adrian.

“For a long time he seemed unfeasible for us, but we got there early and kept in close contact. We are very happy that we can now welcome him to Utrecht and that he will sign with us for four years.”
