Daniel Bachmann could be in line for his first Austria cap in more than a year after being called into the squad for two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers.

Austria travel to Belgium on Saturday June 17 before hosting Sweden on Tuesday June 20.

Wins over Estonia (2-1) and Azerbaijan (4-1) in the first two games in Group F have put Ralf Rangnick’s Austria top of the table at this early stage.

Bachmann, who has been capped 13 times at full international level, was yesterday announced as the goalkeeping coach for the World XI in this week’s Soccer Aid match against an England XI.

The keeper made his senior debut for Austria against England in June 2021, and then went on to play in all four of their games in the Euro 2020 finals (which were held a year late due to the pandemic).

He then played in six of Austria’s World Cup qualifying games later in 2021 but was on the bench when they were beaten 2-1 by Wales in their qualification play-off game.

Bachmann’s last cap for his country came against Scotland on March 29, 2022.

The 28-year-old started 45 of Watford’s 46 Championship games last season, missing the game at Coventry in April after being sent off in the previous game against Huddersfield.
