Can you remember what you were doing on March 17, 2012? Can you remember what you were doing yesterday?!
Back in 2012, the song Somebody That I Used To Know by Goyte was sitting top of the charts, The Artist had just won Best Picture at The Oscars and Sean Dyche was manager of Watford.
And it was on that March day almost exactly 11 years ago that 20-year-old Britt Assombalonga made his Watford debut, playing the first 61 minutes of a 0-0 draw with Coventry City at Vicarage Road.
The small matter of 4,014 days (and 18 different Hornets head coaches) later, Watford were beating Birmingham City 3-0 – and Assombalonga scored his first goal for the club.
That gives the striker a record that is highly unlikely to be beaten: the longest passage of time between a debut and a first goal.

The previous longest was the 10 years, six months and 11 days it took the late Tommy Harris between his debut in 1936 and his goal in a 1-1 draw with Brighton in 1946 – though the vast majority of the intervening period was taken up by World War II.
However, when Assombalonga bundled Ismael Kone’s cross over the line to make it 3-0 last night, it was 10 years, 11 months and 25 days since that game against Coventry in March 2012.
It was a goal that certainly won’t win any beauty contests, but Assombalonga didn’t care a bit.
“For me those kinds of goals are a typical striker’s goal and the same for me as scoring a 40-yarder. A goal’s a goal! To score 10 years later is a special moment,” he said.
“It was the perfect moment to get it here. It’s been a long time coming but finally here and all I have to do is push on.”
Last night’s victory was much needed after the defeat at QPR, and gave new head coach Chris Wilder his first win.
“Coming back from defeat on Saturday everyone was gutted, but we said we’ve got to turn things around and this is the first step,” said Assombalonga.
“We’ve got to take each step as it comes and keep winning. Everyone was on it from the starting XI to the subs, we’re a team and everyone’s giving their all.
“Results in the past have not gone our way but to still have the support of everyone behind us is great and we’ll build on that.”
