Domingos Quina has been recalled from his loan at Spanish side Elche and has joined Rotherham United for the remainder of the season.
There is no option for the Millers to sign the 23-year-old when the loan is completed.
Quina had made 10 La Liga appearances for Elche this season, as well as one in the Copa del Rey.
Born in Guinea-Bissau but eligible to play for Portugal because his father is a former Portuguese international, Quina has been capped at all age groups from Under-17 to Under-21.
He started his career at Benfica and was on the books at Chelsea before signing as a professional with West Ham when aged 17.
Quina played for the Hammers in the Europa League but joined Watford in August 2018 in search of first-team football.
However, he has made only 37 outings for the Hornets over three seasons, and had spells on loan at Granada, Fulham and Barnsley, before moving to Elche in the summer.
He now joins a Rotherham side sitting just above the relegation zone and facing second-placed Sheffield United at home on Saturday.
