Tobi Adeyemo’s goal makes him the eighth youngest scorer in Watford’s history, demoting John Barnes to ninth in the list (he was 26 days older when he netted his first goal for the club).
Gifton Noel-Williams is the club’s youngest scorer: he was just 16 years, 10 months and nine days old when he scored on November 30, 1996, in a 2-2 draw with . . . Blackpool.
The club’s current Academy Head of Technical Development, Jimmy Gilligan, is fourth on the club’s list of all-time youngest scorers.
Incredibly, Adeyemo doesn’t make it onto the top 20 youngest players to have played a senior match for the club.
- Bilic hails bravery of Adeyemo's finish
- 'Clean sheet massively important' - Morris
- Half-time substitutes raised the threat level
However, Adrian Blake (7th) and Michael Adu-Poku (14th) do make it into the top 20.
Keith Mercer holds the record as the youngest Hornet, being just 16 years four months and two days old when he made his debut on February 15, 1973, as a substitute against Tranmere.
As well as being the club’s youngest scorer, Noel-Williams is also the second youngest to play for the club.
Anyone going to a quiz night locally may want to know that Watford have had five 16-year-olds play for them: Mercer, Noel-Williams, Alex Campana (1988), Gilbert Wilkinson (1910) and Kieron Forbes (2007).
