When Ismaila Sarr ran onto Yaser Asprilla’ pass in the 86th minute and sprinted away down the left flank, Vakoun Bayo had only one thought in his mind: try and keep up with him!

Bayo managed to do so, and when Sarr squared the ball across the box, the striker was on hand to net at the back post.

“We all know Ismaïla Sarr is very fast so when he got the ball on the left I just followed his run,” said Bayo.

“He gave me a great assist and I managed to finish it off. I was very happy to score.

“I feel great. We all feel good because it was a brilliant team performance, and it keeps us in the running towards the top of the table. We are very happy.

“I’m really pleased because it had been a long time since I’d scored, and I’m confident more goals can come.”

That’s three goals in the Hornets’ black and white centenary shirt for the Ivory Coast international.

“I love the black and white shirt, it seems to be good to me!” he smiled.

“As long as I keep scoring, everyone will be happy, and we’re all pleased with how we fought to get the win today.

“We know we need to go away and rest well now, because we have a lot of injuries. It’s important we stay together and keep fighting, and hopefully some players will be able to come back soon.

“I say thanks to the Head Coach because it’s not easy to lose so many players, but he’s dealt with the situation very well.”

• “I’m absolutely buzzing!” said defender James Morris after making his first league start at Norwich and coming away with a win and a clean sheet.

“It was hard work. Obviously playing wing-back you have to get up and down the flank, so it’s tough, but it’s always worth it when you get the three points at the end.

“I played next to Craig Cathcart, and he was talking me through the game all the time, encouraging me. It was the same for everyone: every time I did something well the lads gave me encouragement, and obviously being my first start that gave me some confidence, and helped me perform well.

“We had the better chances during the game, and we deserved the win. The late winner makes it that extra bit sweeter, and we’ll all go away with big smiles after the way we’ve approached the situation we’re in.”

After that late winner, and after coming through nine minutes of stoppage time unscathed, Morris was able to celebrate with his teammates in front of the hoards of travelling Watford fans.

“The fans were brilliant throughout the game, and it was great when we all went over at the end. It’s an amazing feeling to go over to them and thank them for coming all this way, and reward them with the three points.”
