There are four teams in tonight’s FA Cup Third Round draw that Watford have never faced in a competitive first-team fixture.

The Hornets will be ball number 40 in the draw which will be broadcast live from Anfield on BBC2, starting at 7pm.

Watford have never faced Fleetwood Town (ball number 48) or Forest Green (51), and they also have never played Dagenham and Redbridge (58), although they did beat Dagenham 3-0 in the First Round in November 1978. That was Graham Taylor’s first FA Cup tie in charge of Watford, and striker Ross Jenkins scored a hat-trick.

The fourth team the Hornets have not played is Boreham Wood (57), unless you consider the many Herts Senior Cup clashes to be a first-team meeting.

Watford’s Hertfordshire neighbours are in the National League, and where Hornets legend Lloyd Doyley is assistant manager. Last season Wood beat AFC Wimbledon and Bournemouth on their way to the Fifth Round, where they lost 2-0 at Everton.

Another Herfordshire side, Stevenage (55), have never visited Vicarage Road in a competitive game, although Watford did play at Broadhall Way in the League Cup in 2014, when a Lloyd Dyer goal gave Watford a 1-0 win.

In terms of teams Watford have never played away, there are two in the draw: Accrington Stanley (47) and Burton Albion (62).

The Hornets hosted Accrington in a League Cup tie in 2006, which ended 0-0. Watford won 6-5 on penalties, and the team that night included the likes of Jordan Parkes and Albert Jarrett, while Sheku Kamara and Claude Seanla came on as subs.

The only meeting between Watford and Burton Albion was at Vicarage Road in the FA Cup on January 7, 2017, when goals from Christian Kabasele and Jerome Sinclair gave the Hornets a 2-0 win. If you were at that game you would have seen the only appearance for midfielder Carl Stewart, who replaced Sinclair seven minutes into stoppage time, and one of only two appearances from Brice Dja Djede.

FA Cup Third round ties will be played between Friday January 6 and Monday January 9, and there are replays in both the third and fourth rounds.

The Fourth Round is on the weekend of January 28/29, and should Watford get as far as the Fifth Round, those matches will be played in midweek on or around March 1.
