Watford FC and Hertfordshire Constabulary have issued a joint statement outlining extra safety measures ahead of the Luton match this weekend.
A “significant police presence” had already been confirmed ahead of the 12pm clash at Vicarage Road on Sunday, but a statement released this morning has shed more light on what fans can expect at the ground.
It reads: “At the end of the fixture measures will be put in place to ensure both sets of fans are able to leave the stadium in a more structured manner along allocated routes. To achieve this, we are looking for your support and understanding.
“Home supporters will asked to leave the stadium via one of two routes, whilst Luton Town fans will be asked to use a different, third route. The aim is to separate the two sets of fans, thus avoiding any potential conflict in promoting public safety.
“Designated stadium exit routes will be communicated directly to Watford supporters before the weekend.”

Fans have been warned the routes are slightly longer and will add to journey times.
The statement continues: “For those fans who do not wish to follow one of the two allocated home fans' routes, there will be the opportunity to remain within the stadium and await the announcement that Vicarage Road is reopened.
“This announcement will be by tannoy and is expected to be made within approximately 10 minutes of the match finishing. At least one refreshment kiosk will remain open within each of the home stand areas of the stadium.”
Police say police and the club have been working closely ahead of the clash to ensure “a safe environment for fans of all ages”.

“As with many local derby games around the country, passion often runs high - which can, on occasion, cause points of conflict. Although the majority of supporters attending are genuine, well-behaved football fans, there are a minority who may be intent on acting in an anti-social manner.
“At the game on Sunday you are likely to see a significant policing presence, more than is usually seen at matches at Vicarage Road; this is due to the derby nature of the fixture and the main aim of promoting public safety.”
