Former Barnet and Brentford goalkeeper Gary Phillips and ex-Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels are among the new appointments that have been announced in Watford’s Academy.
Phillips takes over as head of goalkeeping following Graham Stack’s departure, while Daniels – who has been involved with the Hornets’ youth set up for more than a year - has filled the vacant Unnder-18 lead coach role after Tom Hart left in the summer.
Phillips arrives at London Colney after coaching at Crystal Palace at first team and academy level for the past ten years, having also coached at QPR, Southend United, Stevenage and Colchester United.
Daniels told the club website: “I’m really enjoying working with the Under-18s. Ever since I came in, everyone at the club has made me feel really welcome and I learned a lot from Tom [Hart] before he departed.
“I feel like I’m now ready to take it on as my first full-time role. I’ve been really pleased with how it has worked out, how the players have responded to my sessions, the way I want them to play and how I want them to improve as players.”
Daniels will be assisted by Armand Kavaja, who has previously worked with the younger age groups at the club and served as Watford Women’s head coach.
Academy director Richard Johnson said: “We are all excited about the crop of talent we have within our Academy ranks. Gary Phillips comes with a wealth of experience, and we’ve all been delighted to welcome him to the team.
“Charlie Daniels has a great rapport with the players, which was developed while he was working in a part-time role, and the knowledge he has gained during a very successful playing career will be invaluable for the team. With Armand Kavaja there as well, there is plenty of know-how within the Under-18s set-up.
