Watford will think this was two points missed as they came from behind to draw 1-1 at Rotherham but dominated the second half.

Poor defending cost them in the second minute as home skipper Wood headed home and the Hornets were pushed back after that by a buoyant Rotherham.

They drew level in style as Bayo smashed home a volley from Sema’s cross, and then Watford dominated the second half.

Bayo flicked a header against the post as the Hornets penned the Millers back, but they didn’t turn possession into chances and goals – the home side were running the clock down from well before the end and their fans cheered the final whistle as if they’d won.

Watford are still unbeaten on the road but they’ll have to find a way to win these games where they have so much of the ball.

Ismaila Sarr missed the game after picking up a minor knee injury against Middlesbrough in midweek, but both Ken Sema and Craig Cathcart were ok after going off on Tuesday night.

There was a first start for Kortney Hause in defence, while fellow Aston Villa loanee Keina Davis was on the bench.

The Hornets made a nightmare start, and conceded a very avoidable goal in the second minute. The ball was hoisted into the box from the right, Kabasele and Bachmann seemed to expect the other to deal with it and Wood nipped in to head inside the near post.

The home side were lifted visibly, as were their fans audibly, and Bachmann had to push away a fiercely-struck curling free kick in the 12th minute.

After 23 minutes Washington turned sharply just inside the box but dragged his shot wide.

Then, out of nowhere in the 32nd minute, the Hornets were level, and in some style too. Sema crossed from the left and Bayo unleashed a technically perfect volley that flew past Johansson.

The equaliser clearly lifted the visitors and suddenly the home side looked nervous and were struggling to get out of their own half.

Bayo’s quick feet on the right saw him flick past a defender and break free after 40 minutes. He had to hit an early cross with two v one in the middle, but it also had to be high and hard, meaning although Pedro reached it he couldn’t get it under control.

The first chance after the break in the 49th minute was a good for the home side as a long throw deflects to Peltier, but his shot is forced wide by an outstretched leg.

Back come Watford a minute later and Pedro does so well to dig out a cross on the left of the box, which Asprilla meets with a superb volley that forces a great save from Johansson.

Then Barlarser let fly from 25 yards, the ball moved in the air and Bachmann did well to get down and push it out.

The home side should have done better I n the 57th minute. A misplaced Kabasele pass let Wiles into the box on the right but he pulled the ball back behind two incoming teammates.

A minute later referee Mr Doughty waved away penalty appeals as Pedro went down in the box chasing a cross.

Watford came so close in the 67th minute. Pedro crossed from the left and Bayo rose to glance the ball beyond Johansson, but it came back off the upright.

Davis came on after 66 minutes and his power was instantly obvious, as he shielded the ball and muscled defenders out of the way. His first surge into the box three minutes after coming on saw his low angled drive just blocked at the near post.

The last 20 minutes saw the home side drop deeper, defend in numbers and try to waste time with every dead ball as Watford dominated possession and spent long periods in and around the Millers box.

However, in the end, they didn’t turn possession and dominance into goals.
