Rob Edwards is “delighted” Keinan Davis is set to join Watford and said preparations for the victory over Burnley were not adversely affected by Emmanuel Dennis’ transfer to Nottingham Forest.
Davis is expected to complete a season-long loan move from Aston Villa after having a medical and the Hornets head coach described the move as “imminent” following the 1-0 win.
Edwards said: “My understanding is it’s very, very close and I’m delighted with that. I think he’s an excellent player and I’m delighted to get him in.”
Fellow forward Dennis is poised to complete a move in the opposite direction away from Vicarage Road, with reports claiming he will sign a four-year deal at the City Ground after undergoing his medical.
“I think it’s progressing,” Edwards said of the deal. “Things may have been happening while the game’s been going on as well, I don’t know. But I think it’s getting there.”
Asked whether Dennis’ probable departure had affected preparations for the game, Edwards said: “Not so much. We’ve been aware and we’ve been calm throughout the window. We’ve known that things could happen and things could change and we’ve been pretty well prepared for all eventualities.
“This one didn’t really surprise us and we were ready to make any adaptations that we had to and I thought the players dealt with it seamlessly.
“He’s a good player and if it goes through he goes with our best wishes and I’m sure he’ll go on and do very well, but tonight was about the lads that were here and that was my focus and I thought they were brilliant.”
