Watford have announced their squad numbers for the new season – but just have in mind that the final set of numbers don’t have to be submitted to the EFL until after the transfer window has closed.
While it’s unlikely there will be wholesale changes, the fact that players like Ignacio Pussetto, Adalberto Penanranda, Samir and Ashley Fletcher have been given numbers when there’s every likelihood they won’t be at Vicarage Road come September 1 suggests they aren’t totally set in stone just yet.
Daniel Bachmann has taken the vacant number one shirt, while the number 26 that he previously wore has been given to fellow goalkeeper Ben Hamer.
New forwards Rey Manaj and Vakoun Bayo have been handed numbers nine and 19 respectively, with Yáser Asprilla and Maduka Okoye choosing 18 and 35 as their first numbers at Vicarage Road.
Pontus Dahlberg and Dapo Mebude have been given 30 and 37 following their temporary spells away from Watford last year, while the club’s other returning loanees Domingos Quina (20), Tom Dele-Bashiru (24), Mattie Pollock (32) and Joseph Hungbo (36) have all kept their previous numbers.
Youngsters JJ McKiernan and Adian Manning have also been given squad numbers for the new campaign, with the duo taking 43 and 44 respectively.
The club have said that Mario Gaspar’s squad number will be revealed in due course. There's the No.3 shirt going begging, although with No.4 also not taken that leaves a gap for another defender.
