Watford academy coach Omer Riza has spoken about misfit loan midfielder Ozan Tufan, who played just nine times for the Hornets before returning to Fenerbahce.
The Turkish midfielder was never able to settle at Vicarage Road and had his loan move cut short at the end of the January transfer window.
Speaking to Turkish publication Fanatik Riza said Tufan was "caught off guard" by the pace of the division.
"I didn't have much opportunity to talk to Ozan," he said. "I feel he needed more time on the pitch to adapt to the Premier League.
"I think the pace of the Premier League caught him off guard. If a player wants to play in the Premier League, he has to work hard, constantly improve and you have to be disciplined."
Since his return to Turkey, Tufan has struggled to establish himself as a key player at Fenerbahce.
He has made just seven appearances in total and has not played since the end of March.
