“Fantastic”, “brilliant”, “what a difference” are just some of the email and messages I have had about the facelift and upgrade of the Vicarage Road subway from George Street to Vicarage Road in Watford FC colours, celebrating the club, some of its legends and history.
As the county councillor for the area I was involved from day one in this long-running project - albeit delayed during Covid. At one stage it looked like it would not go ahead until I located almost £30,000 in a developer’s contributions pot that could be used for the works. That, along with some county money, WFC and Watford Borough Council contributions, has enabled what we now see. And more is to come with new LED lighting after April!
However the biggest thanks for such a successful facelift must go to MurWalls and Infrastructure Services but especially the artists led by Marc Silver and Mark Meana who have had the vision, skill and ability to make this special. Let us all treasure this in what is 100 years of the Hornets at Vicarage Road as well as the centenary of the borough’s charter.
And as some have asked let’s now look to another subway uplift - the town hall one next ?
And of course I cannot wait for Elton to see his mural in July!
