Xisco Munoz said he was "sad" for Watford to lose to Tottenham by virtue of a simple mistake, as they go into the international break on the back of a defeat.
The Hornets were beaten 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Heung-Min Son's free kick sailed past everyone in the box before nestling in the far corner of the net.
The head coach felt his side would have got something from the game had they not switched off for that brief moment.
"I was a little sad about this because the response of the players was 200 per cent today," said Munoz.
"We were near [to taking something from the game] because it was a good performance. But we spoke before in the press conference - we know the contest and the level of the players in front and we know we can't give one second.
"In one action, one fault, we decide this game.
"We need to continue to learn about these situations for the next performance, to make sure we have better power."
Despite the result, Munoz was pleased with his team's performance, as they produced a much-improved display from the poor defeat away at Brighton last weekend.
"The reaction was brilliant," he added. "We always had focus, we were stronger, had a very good mentality and physical condition.
"We had good balance in the game. Sometimes we had the control, sometimes we were waiting for the transition, we always stopped their transitions.
"It was a very good reaction but there was a problem because we didn't win the points.
"But I think it's a step in front for our team to take this character and we were positive from the first minute until the last."
