Kiko Femenia is close to returning to fitness and wants to play in Watford's opening match of the 2021/22 season.
The full back limped off the pitch after straining his abductor during the Hornets' win over Millwall in April, an injury he was initially expected to shake off fairly quickly.
However, pain in the same muscle has forced him to sit out pre-season, while his teammates built their match fitness in several friendly matches.
Whether or not he will be in contention for next week's season opener at home against Aston Villa is up to the club's fitness team and head coach Xisco Munoz, but the player is happy to be at Watford and wants to establish himself as first choice in that position again this season.
