Watford have opened talks with Hibernian regarding a move for Josh Doig, the Watford Observer understands.
A price is yet to be agreed for the 18-year-old but discussions have centred around a deal in the region of £4million.
Doig is the second player from Scotland who Watford are targeting this summer, with two bids for Lewis Ferguson understood to have been rejected by Aberdeen.
The Scottish Under-18 international plays primarily as a left back, an area Watford need to strengthen with Adam Masina the only natural in that position currently in the squad.
Achraf Lazaar was brought in midway through last season to provide cover but he has since been released after failing to impress sufficiently to have his deal extended.
Doig made 34 appearances for Hibs last season, scoring once.
He has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
