Watford have made contact with Ashley Young about a potential return to Vicarage Road this summer, the Watford Observer understands.
Back in October the left back told the club's 'Golden Tales' podcast he would love to finish his career with the Hornets, where he first became a professional after progressing through the youth ranks.
"If I could go back and play there again, I would walk from Italy right now because it's what I know, it's where I come from and it's what allowed me to be who I am and get where I am," he said.
Young will be available for a free transfer this summer if he is not offered a new deal by Inter Milan, where his contract expires at the end of next month.
The Hornets are monitoring the situation closely and initial talks have taken place between the club and the player's representatives.
Whether or not Young is brought in, left back is a position Watford are looking to strengthen ahead of their return to the Premier League, with Adam Masina the only natural in that position and Achraf Lazaar's contract unlikely to be extended beyond the current season.
