Out on loan Watford defender Craig Dawson was named man of the match as he made his first start for West Ham United against Southampton last night.
The defender helped to keep Danny Ings and Che Adams out at St Mary's in the Premier League clash and received praise from manager David Moyes for his performance.
"Craig Dawson did a great job," Moyes told Football.London after the game. "Very good, but I don’t think anyone should be surprised with that, he is a very good central defender and has been good wherever he has been.
"I have to say he did great for us, he helped us keep a clean sheet and it is good for him.”
Dawson left Vicarage Road for the Hammers on loan after Watford's relegation from the Premier League last season, having been with the club for just one season following his arrival from West Bromwich Albion.
He told the West Ham website that he has had to be patient in his wait to get a first start, but is hoping to string some performances together now.
"It's been a long wait, but obviously the lads have done so well during that time," he said. "Hopefully I can keep my place in the side and keep gaining points.
"We'll recover now and move onto the next one. We've got a great squad, hopefully we can keep working together and keep pushing up the table."
