The Watford Sunday League (WSL) has been suspended until further notice in light of advice that all grassroots football should be postponed for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Although many leagues lower down the pyramid followed the lead of the Premier League and EFL in cancelling its matches at the weekend, the WSL proceeded with its fixtures as normal in line with national guidance.
However, that position has now changed in light of updated Government advice on the Covid-19 outbreak.
A league spokesman said: “Following the Government’s announcement today, for people to avoid social contact and gatherings where possible, Herts FA are now advising that all grassroots football in Hertfordshire is postponed for the foreseeable future.
“Therefore with immediate affect all fixtures (League & Cup) are suspended until notice.
“How long this will last is unknown, also what will happen regards conclusion of this season is also currently unknown. These questions have been raised and an announcement will be made when any answers are made available.
“I hope you all understand this decision has not been taken lightly and has been made with the well being of all involved with this League in mind.”
