Seventy swimmers from Watford Swimming Club took part in the Hertfordshire County Championships, securing a huge haul of medals.
The group, consisting of swimmers ranging in age from nine to 23, displayed an impressive attitude and professionalism to finish the competition with 30 golds, 41 silvers and 58 bronzes, with medals coming in all age groups and all events ranging from 50m races through to the 1500m freestyle.
Among the highlights for the club were Lewis Shayler, Ben Green and Joe Coldwell placing first, second and third respectively in the open men's 50m breaststroke, having a third of the field in both the 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle events, while the gold medal in the Under-13 girls’ medley relay was won by Amy Harper, Angelica Lazauskaite, Tigerlily Donald and Lauren Parkinson.
The excellent county results for Watford come off the back of a great stint in the Arena League, a national competition contested by more than 500 clubs, for both the A and B teams.
Having won promotion the season before, the A team were up against some of the biggest clubs in the country, winning the B final and finishing ninth out of 18.
The B team also finished fifth in League Two, despite coming up against a number of A teams in that division, securing some notable successes along the way.
