Our player ratings from Watford vs Woking in the FA Cup

Goals from Will Hughes and Troy Deeney earned the Hornets a routine 2-0 victory against a side who admitted before the game that they were expecting to be on the end of a heavy defeat.

Head coach Javi Gracia fielded a starting 11 entirely different to that which faced Bournemouth in the club's last match, demonstrating the strength of his squad and here is how we felt they got on: 

Heurelho Gomes - 7

The Brazilian goalkeeper deputised well for Ben Foster and never really looked troubled on an afternoon that was far from his busiest.

His experience helped him deal with what little Woking had to throw at him with ease and he organised his defence well to make sure they remained strong at the back.

Daryl Janmaat - 7

The full-back had to receive treatment for an injury just below his eye during the second half, but remained focused enough to carry on.

His performance was professional and the Woking attackers struggled to beat him on the wings. 

Some may feel he could have contributed more going forward, but the team did well enough without that input.

Miguel Britos - 8

Despite having very little to do at the back, Britos still managed to put in a decent performance.

His desire to move the ball on with purpose was noticeable, while his solid defending ensured Woking's attackers were not given a sniff.

He was also unlucky not to finish off a nice passing move with Troy Deeney that saw him almost through on goal.

Ben Wilmot - 7

Another whose performance only suffered through a lack of things to do, the 19-year-old put in a thoroughly professional shift and looked every bit as reliable as the rest of his team mates.

The youngster will need to improve a bit more before he really threatens for a place in the first team, but the signs suggest he could be doing that sooner rather than later.

Adam Masina - 8

Some quick thinking to pick out Will Hughes from a corner produced the Hornets' first goal, while his work rate up and down the left wing was impressive.

His end product still needs a bit of work, but he did more than enough on the day to help the Hornets into the fourth round.

Nathaniel Chalobah - 6

The former Chelsea man was one of a midfield three that controlled play and did not allow Woking any time on the ball.

However, this was a real chance for Chalobah to show how much of a dominating presence he can be in midfield and why he feels he should be a regular starter. 

He did the basics well enough, but I do not think he will have given Javi Gracia any big decisions to make just yet.

Tom Cleverley - 7

Cleverley's first start of the season following a lengthy spell on the touchlines produced a solid no frills performance. 

The former Manchester United man is still not quite back to his best, but his performance was strong enough to suggest that could soon be pushing for a starting place.

He was also unlucky to see his first half free-kick come back off the bar.

Domingos Quina - 7

The Portuguese youngster put in an impressive first half performance and looked a lively attacking figure.

On the counter attack, he was always dangerous and, as always, was not afraid to have a shot from range.

He faded a bit in the second half and his decision making was not always the best, but he is a player who is continuing to impress.

Will Hughes - 8

To have a player like Hughes not an automatic selection since his injury is another illustration of the depth of Watford's squad.

The former Derby man linked the play between the strikers and the midfield well and could have contributed to more goals had the Hornets' finishing been better. 

Took his goal very well, which will have given his confidence a boost.

Adalberto Penaranda - 7

The young Venezuelan will have been pleased to finally get the chance to show the Hornets' fans what the club are so excited about.

In the game, the Woking defenders looked scared of the tricky attacker, whose footwork had them on the backfoot right from the off.

A goal would have crowned his performance nicely, but there was enough there to suggest he will be plenty of fun in the future.

Isaac Success - 4

This was a game in which Success should have run the Woking defence ragged, but instead, they got the measure of the Nigerian very early on.

On an afternoon in which he struggled to make an impact, he frequently conceded possession, ballooned an ambitious overhead kick over the bar and got booked for diving.

His misery will have been compounded after being subbed on 71 minutes, only to see his replacement Troy Deeney score almost immediately.

Simply put, he looked completely bereft of confidence.

Substitutes

Troy Deeney - 7

The skipper's presence added some much-needed focus that the team had been lacking up front. 

He did well to get himself into a good position to finish off Sema's cross from close range and finally put the game beyond Woking. 

Ken Sema - 7

Another player whose introduction sharpened the Hornets' attack. 

He had barely been on the field for two minutes when he picked out Deeney in the box with a lovely cross to ensure Watford's passage to the next round.

Marc Navarro - N/A

Joined the game too late to make a noticeable impact.
