The EFL has announced it has ruled out including Premier League B teams and "clubs from non-English leagues" in its plans for a new league structure.
There had been plans afoot to investigate the possiblity of Premier League sides fielding youth sides lower down the football pyramid, as is the case in Spain.
But fierce opposition to the idea, which could have seen B teams winning league titles but other teams being promoted in their place due to restrictions, has today culminated in the Football League releasing a statement on behalf of its 72 clubs "collectively ruling out" the possibility.
A meeting was held between the clubs earlier today during which it was decided the potential overhaul of the league structure, termed the somewhat cliched "Whole Game Solution", will not include discussion over the inclusion of B teams.
Under-23 sides have already been included in this year's Checkatrade Trophy, formerly the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, which has been met with significant backlash from fans up and down the Football League, and has led some club chairmen to express their regret that the decision.
