AIDY BOOTHROYD insists the pressure is on Wigan Athletic in tonight's (Wednesday's) relegation showdown at Vicarage Road.

Despite the fact that victory will hoist Watford off the bottom for the first time in ten weeks and move them to within four points of Paul Jewell's men, Boothroyd believes the game carries greater significance for the Latics.

"I know that Wigan know they have to win this, - it's a far bigger game for them than it is for us," said the Watford manager in a statement that smacks of mind games.

"They'll go further away from the bottom three if they win and they'll see that as a massive thing," he added. "We are not expected to be anywhere outside 20th position and there is a bit more expectation on them, particularly after doing so well last year.

"I don't think there is any pressure on us," he continued. "If we finish in a position that means we are in the Premiership next year then that will be like winning the Play-off Final, swimming the channel and climbing Everest. I think we can do it, irrespective of what happens against Wigan."
