New Watford head coach Slavisa Jokanovic believes loanee Sebastien Bassong could become a very important player for the Hornets in the coming months.
Bassong had been frozen out at Norwich City following the appointment of Neil Adams in April and joined the Golden Boys on a three-month loan two weeks ago following injuries to Gabriel Tamas and Gabriele Angella.
The 28-year-old impressed during his Hornets debut at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday despite it being his first outing since April 5.
Speaking after the 3-0 win, Jokanovic said: “I thought he had a very good game. He’s an experienced player with many games in the Premier League. He can be a very important player for us in the future and today he was very good. He helped us get the win.”
Matej Vydra excelled during the victory and linked up well with fellow attackers Fernando Forestieri and Odion Ighalo.
But Jokanovic was keen to praise his team’s defensive display.
He said: “We kept a clean sheet which is important for us. We have important offensive players but the back four today and the rest of the team did a good defensive job.
“Everyone has to be pleased with our performance today.”
