Tommie Hoban is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after having surgery on his ankle injury in America on Monday.
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international has not featured for the Hornets since February and following consultation with specialists from across the world, it was felt that surgery was the best option.
Hoban’s operation was successful and the 19-year-old has been recovering in New York this week and is due to return home at the weekend to continue his rehabilitation.
