A READER is hoping someone might remember or will have worked for Wells Brewery, which occupied the site in St Albans Road, near the bridge, where Fishburns used to be.
Ralph Thorpe founded the brewery, which began to operate near the turn of the 20th Century (1900).
They had the one pub in town, the Tudor Arms, and off-licenses at Leavesden Road and St Albans Road, in the new estates. They also had various pubs all over the place such as the White Horse in Eaton Bray and another in Woolwich. The brewery, taken over by Benskins, was wound up around 1954-55.
There may still be people alive who have worked for Wells.
