Motorists in central and West Watford will be asked to find alternative parking arrangements as a programme of road cleaning and repairs gets under way from next week.

Twenty roads across in the centre of the town as well as the Vicarage and Callowland areas are due to have work done between August 8 and 24.

Residents living in the roads affected will be notified beforehand by letters from the council.

When work is being undertaken drivers on those roads will be asked to move their cars away from the area.

The road works are due to begin at 8am and last several hours.

Dorothy Thornhill, elected mayor of Watford, said: “The deep cleans have been a great success in the past.

“They rely on car-owners to do their bit and move their vehicles by 8am on the morning of the relevant street deep clean. This scheme can only work with your cooperation. Don’t be the one who lets your street down.”

Hertfordshire Highways will be undertaking highway works which include gully cleaning and white lining works whereas Watford Borough Council workers will be sweeping the road channels.

Stuart Pile, the Hertfordshire County Council cabinet member for highways and transport, added: “We are very pleased to be working with Watford Borough Council to continue this programme of deep cleaning and road maintenance.

“The partnership has been running for a number of years and we hope it helps communities in Watford be proud of where they live.

“By doing this sort of work at the same time, we hope to reduce inconvenience for residents as well as keep our costs down."
