Free security measures for cars and bikes will be on offer in Bushey next week.
Tamper-proof number plate screws and bike security markings will be available at Bushey Grove Leisure Centre on Wednesday, August 8, from noon until 3pm as part of Operation PL8 SAF3.
Co-ordinated by Hertsmere Community Safety Partnership, which includes Hertsmere Borough Council and Hertfordshire Police , the operation aims to reduce number plate and bike thefts in the borough.
Number plates are stolen by offenders so they can be used to disguise other vehicles and commit crimes.
Victims can end up with fines, points on their licence, congestion charges, or petrol costs that they are not responsible for.
Marking a postcode and house number on bikes can help police identify the owner if the bike is stolen.
