Students from Coates Way School in Watford will be able to enjoy a brand new playground facility when they return to school in September, following a £4,000 donation.

The project was formally launched at the school on Tuesday, July 17 by school headteacher Steven Wells and elected Mayor Dorothy Thornhill .

The renovations of the existing playground include repair to its drainage system which has become damaged, resulting in the surface frequently flooding, rendering it inaccessible to the school children.

The £4,000 required for the work was granted through the Pitney Bowes Employee Giving Fund.

Money is donated by the company’s staff and the amount raised is then matched by the business.

Work on the playground is due to be completed during the school’s summer holiday period in the hope that it will be fully functional when pupils return in September for the start of the new academic year.

Commenting on the project, Mr Wells said: "In tough economic times it’s difficult to get financial assistance from businesses. We are extremely grateful."
