Security company G4S’s bid to take over large chunks of policing in Hertfordshire has been thrown into doubt after concerns were raised by officers in the wake of the Olympics fiasco.
Hertfordshire Police Authority has launched a fresh investigation into whether the company will be able to take over force’s back office functions.
A report from the three chief constables raised concerns about the contractor, following the announcement that G4S could not provide enough staff for its Government contract to secure the Olympic Games.
Members of the authority met with their opposite numbers from Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire to discuss whether G4S was the right choice for the job today.
The joint working group, made of four members from each police authority ordered more work be carried out to "explore the ability of the contract and contractor to meet the specific needs of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire".
The outcome of this work will be reported to the group in the middle of August.
The proposed services to outsource include human resources, ICT, finance, estates and facilities, corporate services, corporate communications, fleet, procurement, legal services, business support, records management, information management and resource management.
