Children from Bushey Mill Children’s Centre were treated to a visit from Watford Fire Brigade, to learn about the roles their local firefighters play within the community.

On Wednesday, July 18, parents and children gathered at the centre at Highwood Primary School, Mead Way, for the event.

Firefighters allowed children from the Sure Start centre to explore the fire engine during the afternoon and try on helmets.

Carole Robson, children centre worker, said: "We arrange a variety of visits throughout the year for our children, who are aged under five.

"The children really enjoyed the visit from Watford fire station, they were allowed to explore the fire engine, sit behind the wheel, learn about the pumps and try on helmets.

"It was a completely different experience for them and it’s important they learn about the fire service’s role in the community.

"As a result, I’m sure we’ll have some budding firefighters on our hands."
