Teens and youngsters in Watford will be able to use the town’s leisure centres for free from the start of August.

Watford Central and Watford Woodside leisure centres will be open to all under 19-year-olds in the town for the whole of August for free swimming and gym sessions.

To take part, young people will need to apply for an Everyone Active card and bring proof of residency and photographic ID.

Children under 12 will need a parent or guardian present to sign the application form.

The scheme is being funded by Watford Borough Council and the centres’ operator, Everyone Active.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Dorothy Thornhill, said: "We are once again delighted to be able to fund free swim and gym for our younger residents this summer, especially as it is Olympic year, and the Olympic legacy is to encourage young people to be active and keep fit.

"Who knows we might have a budding Rebecca Adlington in our midst."
