A large housing development will not now be built in north Bushey after the plans were rejected by Hertsmere planners.

Developer Zog Investments Ltd applied for permission to build 22 new homes and a separate nursery on a former West Herts College site in William Street.

The development included 11 three-bedroom houses, nine four-bedroom properties, two two-bedroom homes and provision for nearly 60 cars.

At a meeting of Hertsmere Council’s planning committee on Thursday, members opposed the plans, which had been the subject of 47 letters of objection from neighbours.

Residents opposing the build cited 20 points of contention in the plans including potential traffic problems and the impact on local wildlife.

Many felt the space should be kept for allotments, sports pitches or community use.
