Pupils at a school in Watford have presented a cheque for £700 to a charity helping to provide education for children around the world.
Berrygrove Primary and Nursery School collected the money during their Christmas productions and decided to donate it to the Steve Sinnott Foundation.
Headteacher Chris Kronda said: “It is our custom to support a charity and we try to pick a charity that is focused on children so they can see the purpose of raising the money.”
The wife of the late Steve Sinnott, who was the general secretary of the National Union of Teachers before his death in April 2008, visited the school this morning to collect the cheque on behalf of the foundation.
Children from the school raised £300 for the cause by singing Christmas carols outside Costco in Watford during the festive season.
The staff and students at Berrygrove do a lot of charity work for different causes around the world and they work closely with a school in Africa.
Mr Kronda added: “It means the children get a view beyond our community and trying to get them to understand life beyond Watford, England and even Europe.”
