It is business as usual at Clements of Watford, despite a report in the Watford Observer suggesting the contrary.
A story in the newspaper’s issue of January 6, speculated about the demise of the traditional high street and proffered as examples the disappearance of traditional names such as Woolworth’s and Clements – which was news to brothers Alan and Clive Brooks.
While the famous old department store closed its doors in 2004, the brothers continued to trade under the Clements marque and still do so today.
After initially leasing space in TJ Hughes, which followed Clements, the company now has two showrooms – one on the ground floor and one on the first floor – selling carpets, beds and furniture, in Charter Place.
And the traditional values of the old and legendary department store are proudly continued as the brothers running the new company used to work as carpet fitters for the old Clements.
Alan proudly boasts: “The new business retains a traditional service ethos and old-fashioned values – a rare approach in today’s fast-moving consumer society.”
The brothers have more than 50 years’ experience in the carpet and furniture trade between them so are well placed to offer practical advice to help customers make the best choices to enhance their homes.
And like the old Clements, the home furnishing stores has a wide and loyal customer base furnishing homes and businesses throughout Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Middlesex, north west London and beyond.
