More than 500 children from Berrygrove Primary and Nursery School in Fourth Avenue, Garston, will take part in a world record breaking attempt next month for the most people signing and singing a song simultaneously. The event is organised by SignHealth and it will be held at the school on February.
Steve Powell, Chief Executive at SignHealth, said: “Our sign2sing project is an attempt to break the world record for the most young people singing and signing a song at the same time.
“More than 900 schools across the country and overseas have signed up and we’re delighted schools in Watford are involved in the event too.”
In 2011, 94,489 children took part in SignHealth’s sign2sing event and smashed the Guinness World Record. The previous record was 13,418.
The charity is expecting more than 150,000 schoolchildren will take part in the 2012 event.
Aaron Wanford, Class Teacher and Leader of the Year 5/6 choir at Berrygrove said: “All of our 542 pupils and more than 60 adults will be involved and we are all very excited about taking part in sign2sing.
“Children and teachers have been practicing hard both in and out of singing rehearsals to ensure they are fully prepared for the event. Everyone is really looking forward to attempting to break the world record.”
The event is designed to raise awareness of deafness and the work of the charity SignHealth, as well as acting as a fundraiser for the charity through sponsorship from businesses and a suggested donation of £1 for everyone taking part.
