Three men have been arrested in Watford following immigration raids by the UK Border Agency.
A 25-year old Indian man was deported today (Wednesday), after being arrested on Tuesday, January 17 at The Pavilion in Green Lane.
Immigration checks on the man, who had been working at the pub, revealed he had attempted to use fake documents to extend his student visa.
However The Pavilion had employed the man within the law and will not face a fine.
Two Pakistani men, aged 51 and 29, were also arrested at Pizza and Chicken Junction in Queens Road.
The fast food restaurant now faces a potential fine of up for £20,000, £10,000 per illegal worker, unless it can prove that checks were made before the men were employed.
The men are currently in UK Border Agency detention while work to remove them from the country is carried out.
Debra Johnson, an immigration officer, said: “We are out in Hertfordshire regularly - tracking down illegal workers and the businesses which employ them. We will not tolerate illegal working which undercuts wages and exploits vulnerable staff.
“We do not expect employers to be immigration experts but they must make basic checks on migrant workers before they employ them.”
