A pyramid, igloo, castle, cave and curiosity shop have sprung up in Bedmond Village Primary School.

Headteacher Emma Woolon decided to challenge all the school children to create reading havens in each of the year group’s classrooms, after a visit from author Adrian Townsend last week.

She said: “I created a competition among the classes to create a magical place to sit quietly and enjoy books. The aim was to instil an early love of reading, which will hopefully continue throughout life.

“The children were really excited to get into their areas and read books.”

Pupils brought a variety of donated items in to the school in Meadow Way, in order to construct their reading areas. The result is an igloo made of milk cartons and lids, a castle and curiosity shop constructed from wood, a cave crafted from a gazebo lid and a cave formed from coverings.

The winning class, which will be announced over the next few days, will receive cakes.
