The former chairman of a Watford multi-religious organisation has been awarded an OBE.
Jehangir Sarosh, who lives in Bushey, was featured on the New Year’s Honours List for his services to inter-faith relations.
Mr Sarosh, who used to be the chairman of Watford Inter-Faith Association, is now the president of the European Chapter of the World Council on Religions for Peace.
He said: “Being an immigrant I am thrilled that the country I have accepted as my home has honored me with this - I am very proud.
“The whole community has been very pleased.”
Since becoming involved in the multi-religious organisation, Mr Sarosh has worked across Europe.
He said: “Because of my interest in philosophy I wanted to understand who I am and I thought it would be a good way to learn by considering the different religions and different cultures.”
