A barber shop in Croxley Green will hold a special fundraising day with cake and face painting this week.

CJ Barbers, in New Road, will host the event between 8.30am and 5.30pm on Friday, to raise money for The Peace Hospice in Watford.

Bacon rolls will be available until midday, the face painting will be from 3.30 to 5.30pm, and there will also be an all day cake sale.

In November 2010 staff from the barbers hot-footed it across a path of flaming coals to raise money for the Peace Hospice.

Owner Clare Lemon and employees Rebbecca Barnes, Amy Read and Serana Morris took part in the shortest, but most challenging sponsored walk available.

The Peace Hospice provides specialist palliative care for people with a life limiting or terminal illness.

Ms Lemon said: “I had a very good friend who stayed at The Peace Hospice in 2010, it was the first time I'd been there and the staff were so great.

“Jane Robinson was 49 when she died of cancer, I knew her for a long time, she used to work next door.

“She only had the illness for a few weeks and only stayed at the hospice for short time but they really made an impression. They were amazing.

“Jane was a great friend, had a great sense of humour and was a great laugh.”

Peace Hospice needs to raise £3 million of charitable income every year in order to open its doors. All the care it provides is free.
