A theatre group for people with special needs has been given a large grant to help pay for new audio visual equipment.
Hertfordshire Inclusive Theatre Group (HIT), based in Bushey, has been given £1800 to buy a projector and laptop.
HIT is a registered charity which works with 20 adults and more than 60 children and young people, and the grant was awarded to them by Hertfordshire County Council.
It aims to help them overcome barriers to socialising, which can include anything from economic status to disability.
The group also benefits the wider community by offering low cost, and often free theatre performances, to those that may not otherwise have access to the theatre.
The new laptop and projector will enable the group to display a series of films which members of the theatre have acted in and produced.
It will also help give participants with disabilities more of a voice, since typing or voice recording can sometimes be their only way of communication.
Finally, the new equipment can supplement workshops, especially for those aged 11 - 25, who are taking part in an Arts Award.
The award has three levels, bronze, silver and gold, and encourages participation in performing arts, such as visual arts, literature, media and multimedia.
The award builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and prepares them for further education or employment.
